The Joshua Files is a series of thrillers aimed at young adults written by Mexican-born author M. G. (Maria Guadalupe) Harris.
In The Joshua Files: Invisible City, a British teenager, Josh Garcia, discovers that he’s linked with a secret society descended from the ancient Mayans. This group, who live in the ‘invisible city’ of the title, protect ancient secrets about the coming events of 2012. Josh is propelled into a world of government conspiracies, secret societies and the lost knowledge of an ancient civilisation.
The first book, Invisible City, published by Scholastic Children's Books was the fastest-selling debut in children's fiction in the UK for 2008 ("The Joshua Files" in Oxford Times, 2008). The second installment, Ice Shock was launched at St Gregory the Great School, Oxford ("Pupils help launch Oxford author's new book" in Oxford Mail 2008), which in the story is also the school attended by the main character Josh.
Foreign rights have been so far sold in eighteen territories, with twelve international editions already published by Feb 2010, including in French, German, Spanish, Polish, Indonesian and Vietnamese. The US & Canada edition of Invisible City will be published in May 2010 by Walker Books for Young Readers.
The Joshua Files was one of the first UK children's book series to feature an online Alternate Reality Game when in March 2009, The Descendant was launched alongside Ice Shock. The Joshua Files's ARG was included in top ARG site's list of most-talked about games of 2009.
Book 3, Zero Moment, was published in the UK on 1 Feb 2010.
